Building America: One Relationship at a Time

By Maggie Hardy, Owner and CEO, 84 Lumber

For 70 years, 84 Lumber has been in the business of helping people build. While our company has grown and evolved, our purpose has remained the same.

As our customers’ needs have changed, we’ve evolved with them. We’ve expanded beyond our early roots to become a true partner to builders, growing from single-family construction into multifamily, installed sales, and component manufacturing.

Today, our work spans single-family homes, apartment communities, hotels, townhomes and more. These projects demand speed, coordination, and efficiency, and with our nationwide footprint and manufacturing capabilities, we are built to deliver.

What has never changed is our culture. We do whatever it takes to help our customers succeed, grounded in a simple philosophy: listen to your associates and your customers. Our associates understand their markets and what builders need to keep projects moving, and by trusting them to act and solve problems, we continue to earn that trust.

In an industry where no two projects are the same, our approach remains simple: find a way.

Powered by Our People

Our greatest strength has always been our people. Across our stores, plants, and support teams, our associates show up every day ready to serve.

I have always said I do not want to be the biggest. I want to be the best. That starts with investing in the right people and giving them opportunities to grow. We develop talent from within and help individuals build lasting careers.

Trust is the foundation of every relationship we have built over the past seven decades. While we are proud to be recognized nationally, including Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers 2025 and Newsweek’s Most Trustworthy Companies in America for the third consecutive year, and to be named to an upcoming list recognizing the nation’s most patriotic companies, what matters most is the trust our customers, associates, and partners place in us every day.

As a company rooted in communities across the country, we are also committed to giving back, especially in support of military members, veterans, and their families.

Looking Ahead

As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: stay disciplined, keep listening, and continue finding better ways to support the people who build.

Because in the end, it is not just about structures. It is about relationships, communities, and the people behind them.
