84 Lumber Continues to Support Tiny Living Movement With New Tiny House Design

Company revamps its contemporary, single-level model

EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (May 23, 2018) — With more and more people choosing to lead a minimalist lifestyle, 84 Lumber saw an opportunity to revamp one of its tiny houses to better accommodate the needs of customers.

The company’s Degsy model, a contemporary, single-level structure, was recently enhanced to include additional storage, custom elements and more living space to accommodate those who prefer simpler, smaller homes. At 160 square feet, the Degsy boasts the essential amenities of a full-size house in an open, modern space. Among the key features are:

  • Oversized windows to provide ample natural light
  • Larger bathroom with water-efficient shower
  • Open floor plan with easy-to-access sleeper sofa
  • Raised kitchen with butcher-block countertop and built-in cutting board
  • ENERGY STAR refrigerator
  • Electric cooktop
  • Island for additional food-prep space

The new house also features high ceilings, solid-wood floors, and sufficient room for eating, working and lounging.

“We really focused on storage in the newly designed Degsy,” said Thom Kuntz, director of merchandising at 84 Lumber and head of the company’s Tiny Living program. “The new layout is designed to provide that while also ensuring occupants have enough space to be comfortable and do different activities.”

Since 2016, 84 Lumber’s Tiny Living program has attracted more than 20,000 visitors to its tiny houses at outings across the country. In addition to the Degsy, the company’s other models include the beach-style Shonsie, the rustic-style Countryside and the cabin-style Roving.

When they’re not on the road, all four houses are based at 84 Lumber’s Team Headquarters in Eighty Four, Pa., where they are open to the public Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
