EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Sept. 9, 2019) – 84 Lumber has announced a $25,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity’s 2019 Home Builders Blitz, set to begin today. The annual weeklong event brings thousands of professional builders together to build, repair and renovate homes in dozens of communities across the country to help give a decent place to live to families in need of affordable housing. This year’s project is targeting more than 230 homes across 30 states.
“84 Lumber has a long history of partnering with Habitat for Humanity,” said Maggie Hardy, president of 84 Lumber. “Since 2004, we’ve made nearly $3 million in monetary and material donations to local Habitat organizations across the country, and it’s our honor to support this event for the first time. We look forward to the week ahead and to further growing our relationship with Habitat.”
Home Builders Blitz began in 2002 in Raleigh, North Carolina, when local homebuilder Tom Gipson recruited 12 professional builders to build one house each in a five-day period with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. Since then, more than 2,200 professional builders have participated in the event.
More than 18 million Americans currently spend more than half their income on housing, often forcing them to choose between a safe place to live and other necessities like food and health care. By partnering with professional builders for Home Builders Blitz, Habitat offers them a chance to give back to their communities — something they’re more than eager to do.
“Professional homebuilders are highly aware of the housing affordability challenges in their communities, and they’re looking for a meaningful way to address them,” said Adrienne Goolsby, Habitat for Humanity International’s vice president, United States and Canada. “We’re thankful to those builders joining Home Builders Blitz to make that impact in their communities.”
