Lenexa, Kansas
EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2025) –
84 Lumber hosted the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree on Veterans Day during a special stop at its Lenexa, Kansas, store as the tree makes its cross-country journey from Nevada to Washington, D.C. 84 Lumber has served as the presenting sponsor of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree for the past four years.
“This program connects people to the importance of the nation’s forests and the communities that care for them,” said Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. “From Nevada’s mountains to Kansas’s heartland and on to our nation’s capital, the People’s Tree brings the country together.”
The event, hosted at 8490 Marshall Drive, brought together hundreds of residents for a community-wide tribute to U.S. veterans that included an afternoon of treats, music, and a visit from Santa Claus. Guests had the opportunity to sign holiday cards for U.S. military service members and sign their names on the large truck banner carrying the tree to the U.S. Capitol.
“84 Lumber’s support is a shining example of what can happen when the private sector steps forward – not for profit, but for pride. Civic pride. National unity. And the shared values that light up our country during this season of togetherness,” said Kansas House Democratic Leader Brandon Woodard.
Representatives from the USDA Forest Service and the Society of American Foresters highlighted the 55-year tradition of selecting a Christmas tree from a different national forest in a different state each year. For 2025, the tree was harvested from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the largest national forest in the lower 48 states, marking the first time Nevada has provided the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
“This red fir, named ‘Silver Belle,’ is Nevada’s Christmas gift to the nation,” said Duncan Leao, the project lead for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree and a forester with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. “The opportunity to provide the People’s Tree, highlighting the beauty of the Silver State and the importance of our national forests is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my whole career.”
In honor of Veterans Day, 84 Lumber also celebrated its strong partnership with the Fisher House Foundation by hosting a special holiday meal for families staying at the Kansas City Fisher House, which provides 16 suites for families of veterans receiving care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. This event reflects 84 Lumber’s deep commitment to supporting military families through volunteerism and donations, as well as its broader mission to honor and hire veterans as part of its workforce.
“Our team in Lenexa was proud to host this event,” said 84 Lumber store manager Tyler Golub. “We welcomed the community to gather, honor veterans, and celebrate this national tradition as the tree makes its way to Washington.”
