EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2026) – 84 Lumber, the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials, has promoted Dave Rumbaugh to Vice President of Purchasing effective immediately.
Rumbaugh built his career at 84 Lumber by working his way through the business and gaining a deep understanding of the company’s operations at every level. He began his career as a manager trainee in North Versailles (0249), was promoted to co-manager in Murrysville (0209), and then served as store manager at the Harmarville location (0273). These early leadership roles provided Rumbaugh with a strong operational foundation and firsthand experience supporting customers and associates.
After transitioning into purchasing, Rumbaugh continued to take on increasing responsibility. He spent five years as Lead Buyer for Engineered Wood Products before being promoted to Director of Contract Purchasing, a role he held for more than 12 years under Mitch Wagner. In that position, Rumbaugh played a critical role in managing vendor relationships, contracts, and purchasing strategy across the company.
Most recently, Rumbaugh served as Vice President of Fleet and Specialty Purchasing. Over the past two and a half years, he led those functions with stability, accountability, and strong leadership during a key transition period.
In his new role as Vice President of Purchasing, all purchasing functions will report to Rumbaugh. He will oversee the department with the support of three directors: Ryan Oakes (Director of Transportation & Specialty Purchasing), BJ Hebenthal (Director of Contract Purchasing), and Chuck Balsano (Director of Commodity Purchasing). This structure positions the company’s purchasing organization for continued strength, efficiency, and long-term success.
Rumbaugh’s experience, leadership style, and deep knowledge of 84 Lumber make him the right choice to lead purchasing as the company moves forward. In May 2026, he will celebrate 24 years with 84 Lumber, a testament to his commitment and impact. His strong connection to the field and open lines of communication helps ensure purchasing decisions support the stores, solve challenges, and better serve the company’s customers. With Rumbaugh overseeing purchasing, 84 Lumber is well positioned to operate efficiently, strengthen its competitive position, and continue gaining market share.
