84 Lumber Recognized by Forbes as One of America’s Top Private Companies for 2025

Annual ranking highlights company’s scale, performance, and long-term success

EIGHTY FOUR, Pa. (Jan. 07, 2026) – 84 Lumber, the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials, has been named one of America’s Top Private Companies by Forbes for 2025, ranking No. 98 on the prestigious annual list.

The latest ranking marks an improvement from 2024, when 84 Lumber placed No. 100 on the list, reflecting the company’s continued growth, operational strength and commitment to serving builders across the United States.

“This recognition from Forbes is a direct reflection of the dedication of our associates and the success of our company,” said 84 Lumber Owner and CEO Maggie Hardy. “Being privately held keeps us focused on what matters most, our customers and our associates. It sets us apart from our competitors and positions us for continued success.”

The annual list ranks the largest privately held companies in America based on sales, providing insight into the scale and performance of businesses that are not publicly traded. 84 Lumber’s continued presence on the list underscores its resilience and long-term success in a competitive industry.

Forbes has been ranking and publishing its list of America’s largest private companies since 1985, with 200 companies included on the 2025 list. To qualify, a private company must have estimated revenue of $3 billion or more from the most recent fiscal year. Forbes also uses data voluntarily disclosed by companies, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings for private companies, and estimates from Forbes researchers and outside sources. 84 Lumber has been recognized on multiple Forbes lists over the years, including Forbes’ America’s Best Midsize Employers in 2016 and 2017 and Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers in 2019 and 2025.
