84 Lumber Donates $10,000 to Samaritan’s Purse to Help with Chattanooga Tornado Relief

Following the recent disastrous tornadoes in Tennessee, 84 Lumber steps in to help rebuild

84 Lumber today announced a generous $10,000 donation to Samaritan’s Purse, an international disaster relief organization, to help with tornado clean-up in the greater Chattanooga area.

The E3 tornado touched down on April 12, 2020 while residents were under a stay-at-home order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Many Chattanoogans, including associates from the 84 Lumber store in the area as well as volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse, worked together to navigate cleaning up and helping their town in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.  

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned so far this year, it’s the importance of home,” said Mark Ingersoll, Tennessee and Georgia area manager for 84 Lumber. “At 84 Lumber, we’re in the business of building homes, so after last month’s tornado, we immediately looked for ways to help our neighbors clean up and rebuild. We saw firsthand the good work that Samaritan’s Purse has been doing in the area, and we knew that we wanted to support them.”

According to Samaritan’s Purse, the organization has already assisted 264 families in Chattanooga with debris clean up, tarping and tree removals, with the help of 755 volunteers.

“This work could not happen without the generosity of donors like 84 Lumber,” said Chris Johnston, assistant director of donor services at Samaritan’s Purse. “We are thankful for this gift that will help with very practical needs during this time of crisis.”
